Fleet Safety and Security Services

Our EPIC Risk Control team and transportation specialists are dedicated to serving commercial fleets, and we offer expertise in compliance, fleet safety, and cargo security.

We understand the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and how they fit into the CSA (Compliance, Safety, Accountability) enforcement initiatives. We also understand the serious risk of cargo theft to your operation and reputation. These challenges call for innovative risk management solutions and services.

We are experts in the following areas:

  • Fleet Management
  • Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Compliance
  • Driver Selection, Qualification, and Retention
  • Cargo Security
  • Recordkeeping and Hours of Service
  • NATMI Certified (North American Transportation Management Institute)
  • Partnership with vendors that provide telematics, on-board cameras, automatic driver assistance systems and more.

We build comprehensive programs for commercial fleets to quickly reduce targeting by law enforcement and reduce crashes, cargo theft and litigation.

The average cost of a truck crash is $91,000 and that does not include indirect costs, which might be three times greater. The average cost of cargo theft is around $400,000, and that does not include the cost of stolen vehicle equipment.

The typical result of a compliance review is a Conditional Rating and a $6,000 fine. Aside from this expense, a rating other than “Satisfactory” can have consequences on your business financially and legally. Our services are proven to reduce these risks, including, but not limited to:

  • CSA Compliance
  • Security Enhancement
  • Fleet Management Program
  • Driver Training
  • Management Training
  • Alcohol and Drugs Program Implementation and Training
  • Accident Prevention Programs and Investigation
  • FMSCA Pre-employment Screening Program (PSP) Reports

Cargo Theft Solutions

Whether you are a motor carrier or shipper, the EPIC Risk Control team offers expertise to protect you against theft. We understand how to design, implement and administer security principles in a layered approach that protects trucks, facilities, and drivers.

Motor carriers may suffer from theft of unattended equipment at terminals, shipper locations, and truck stops. Shippers may suffer from theft of cargo thanks to newer strategies of deception involving identity theft, fictitious pickups and misdirected loads. Any of these strategies are a great way for thieves to get what they really want, so nobody is immune to this risk.

We are experts in the following areas:

  • Theft trends and security practices
  • NATMI Certified (North American Transportation Management Institute)
  • Memberships with American Society for Industrial Security, Georgia Cargo Theft Intelligence Group, Transportation Security Council
  • Partnership with security vendors that provide covert tracking devices, locks, seals, GPS, etc.

Cargo theft is the costliest crime in America, with costs exceeding all burglaries, robberies, cyber thefts, and identity thefts combined.

Our services are proven to reduce these risks, including, but not limited to:

  • Enhancement of Security Protocols
  • Management Program
  • Employee Training

FMCSA Pre-Employment Screening Program

In the transportation industry, 90% of a fleet’s problems generally come from the same 10% of drivers. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s Pre-Employment Screening Program (PSP) goes a long way towards helping companies hire the best possible driver.

When you consider that it costs around $8000 to hire and train a driver, and finding drivers is becoming harder each day due to the worsening driver shortage, a program like this is an invaluable driver selection and retention tool.

In a study conducted by the FMCSA, it was found that companies regularly using PSP reduced their crash rates by 8% and their driver out-of-service rates by 17%. This, along with the resulting improvement in on-the-road performance, provides a compelling reason to implement a PSP.

Motor carriers can now request a PSP report from EPIC for a driver candidate as part of the hiring process.  The report costs $10 and includes the most recent five years of crash data and the most recent three years of roadside inspection data, so that hiring managers can identify bad behaviors before hire, thereby reducing hiring costs while maintaining good on-the-road performance.

Using EPIC to facilitate your PSP service saves you time and money:

  • We complete and submit an application for enrollment to FMCSA
  • We handle the enrollment process
  • We pay the annual registration fee
  • YOU can get PSP reports from us immediately
  • If you already get MVRs from EPIC, the only additional action required is to have the driver complete a brief consent form.

With pre-established parameters, EPIC recommends which driver candidates should or should not get hired, saving you valuable time in the hiring process.
