EPIC’s Golf Insurance Program

Our Golf Insurance Services Program has been in place for over 30 years. The team understands the complexities of insuring your golf course or country club. We know that no two courses are alike, so why would your insurance program be the same? Each policy is customized to your specific exposures and the unique features that make your course and your operations different.

We offer a wide range of services to help you minimize potential claims at your golf course or country club. Proactive risk management services help provide a safe and secure environment while stabilizing insurance premiums.

A GOLF CLUB’S NIGHTMARE

Wildfires threaten everything in their path, which is why they’re cause for such concern. Weather conditions, vegetation, geography, and several other factors influence how prone a course is to wildfire, but it’s never a threat club owners can ignore. We all remember the scare and wildfire damage to Barefoot Resort in Myrtle Beach and Barona Creek Golf Club just outside San Diego. And who could forget the Trabuco Fire caused by a golfer striking rock in Orange County. Things happen, flames spark, wildfires get out of control, and in those moments, you hope you have a response team in place to help you through it.

WHAT YOU’RE REQUIRED TO DO ONCE A WILDFIRE OCCURS

When a wildfire occurs, employers are required to provide employees with certain protections and information. As you might already know, regulation §5141.1 Protection from Wildfire Smoke went into effect on July 29, 2019. This uses the local air quality index (AQI) for PM2.5 to determine when worker protections are needed.

If employers reasonably anticipate that employees may be exposed to wildfire smoke, they must:

  • Monitor the Air Quality Index (AQI) for PM2.5
  • Provide training to workers, including how to determine AQI, identify health effects of wildfire smoke exposure, and how to use NIOSH-approved respirators
  • Establish worker protection procedures, including a plan to reduce worker exposure to wildfire smoke
  • Communicate the above workplace procedures to staff and employees

EPIC’S WILDFIRE SMOKE SAFETY TRAINING

Our team provides safety resources and training support on wildfire smoke for both employers and employees. Contact us for an Employer Checklist that will make sure you have everything required of you covered and in place. We also have a double-sided poster and accompanying discussion guide available in both English and Spanish. These are useful, ready-made tools to help communicate the importance of wildfire smoke safety to your workforce.

We have even developed in-person training for employers and employees that provides a more comprehensive and in-depth review of the health effects of wildfire smoke exposure, worker protection procedures, and more.
